Goal: Build 100 sets and photograph100 shoots in 1 year.
Why: We wanted to build a portfolio of our conceptual portrait work as fast as we possibly could.
It was all based on the Elon Musk quote "If you give yourself 30 days to clean your home, it will take you 30 days. But if you give yourself 3 hours, it will take 3 hours. The same applies to your goals, ambitions, and potential."
How: In order to meet the deadline we had to do an average of 2-3 shoots per week.
This was on top of our normal workload of wedding and portrait work. So we had to be incredibly strategic with how we divided our time.
Process: Design the set, go shopping to style the model and the set, build, paint, light, shoot.
We only gave ourselves one day from start to finish to do everything
Conceptualizing the shoot: our inspiration came from movies, art books, and architecture.
We came up with a concept for each shoot (usually centering around concepts of entrapment, defeat, and struggle).
We designed the set to further articulate the concept, and we built a loose storyline around the concept.
We styled the models to match the aesthetic of the sets and gathered props to include in the shoot.
Models: Our models were all people that we connected with through Instagram or friends and family members.
Our models ranged from ages 5 - 60
Lighting: We used Paul C. Buff lighting to light every shoot.
We used creative methods of diffusion and down lighting to light our surreal worlds.
The Result: We found our artistic voices and developed a body of work with a clear vision and point of view.
We are in the process of designing a coffee table book with images from the project as well as preparing work to sell.
