It's no secret that David and I love Los Angeles! We have been working to grow our business on the west coast, so we try to get out there a few times each year to photograph models and further develop the the editorial/portrait side of our business. It's also a bonus that my brother, Austin, lives in LA so we get to spend some time with him whenever we go!
This trip was all about squeezing in as many shoots as we could. We rented studio space in downtown Los Angeles at FD Studios. We booked shoots with local actors and models who needed some updated press materials and headshots.
*** And make sure to watch the video recap at the end of the post!
We rented this studio for several hours and were able to squeeze in three amazing shoots. Each shoot had a very different look, feel, and energy to it even though they were photographed within the same space.
This studio had tons of texture throughout it, which was our primary reason for choosing it. One wall looks like metal, one wall resembled rust, another looked like cement, and there was a light display. And last but not least, there was a motorcycle! This space provided us with so many options and really got our creativity flowing.
We have known Caleb for.a while. He is one of my brother's roommates, who also happens to be a talented actor. He plays Baby Tyler on Good Girls. You may have also seen him in Amazon's new series "Hunters" or starring alongside Jack Black in Goosebumps.
We started the shoot by taking some traditional headshots of him against the different textured backdrops in the space.
He also wanted some photos taken that really "transformed him" into a new character. We brought in Tracy Raffelson, a talented Los Angeles based makeup artist to provide full costume makeup. She applied a fake beard and mustache that looked shockingly real.
We took some absolutely ridiculous photos of Caleb and my brother, Austin, even jumped in for a few shots!
Cali is an Los Angeles based DJ, artist, and model. She dyes her hair crazy vibrant colors, which is initially what attracted us to her. For our session, her hair was dyed a deep blue with rainbow tips - how cool?!
We went very edgy with her shoot by styling the wardrobe and guiding her through a series of poses that were both sexy and edgy. I love the bold colors and extremes we were able to achieve within this shoot.
Aparna is a talented actress who you may have seen starring on NBC's hit show- A.P. BIO. She also was in the Jay & Silent Bob Reboot.
Aparna's shoot was all about style and sensuality. We worked through four different looks making sure to highlight her different personality traits within each style. This was such a powerful session, and Aparna rocked the session.
This studio screams femininity. It has natural light flooding through all the windows, a floor to ceiling flower wall, elegant gold furniture, a vintage bathtub, and a cherry blossom tree.
Christina is an NBA dancer. She has wild curly hair and tons of personality. For her shoot, we wanted to achieve an effortlessly sexy aesthetic. We mixed everyday pieces with lingerie and experimented with a variety of poses.
Caleb stopped by the studio again for a few more playful headshots. He even jumped in front of the flower wall for a few!
Lacy is adorable. She is a Los Angeles based actress with lots of energy and such a fun-loving personality. You may have seen her on shows like Nashville or The Purge.
She brought the energy to this shoot! For the first look, she wore a fluffy tulle skirt. The combination of the feathery pink tree, tulle skirt, and soft lighting transformed the first look into a Marie Antoinette inspired portrait series. I love how feminine and ethereal those images turned out.
The second and third looks were all about capturing a more sensual and playful side. These looks were much more casual, but Lacy's expression and energy make the photos pop.
Hunter is both an actress and model. She is a natural in front of the camera, which made photographing her a breeze. Her session was sexy and feminine. We worked through 4 different looks and photographed against every backdrop in the room.
We were able to work through so many different poses, and I love the variety we were able to achieve in her session.
