The desert is magical. There is a creative, sexual, and dangerous energy to it that is hard to resist. It is equal parts menacing and alluring. 

We spent a few days in Joshua Tree celebrating the birthday of someone incredibly special to us - Harley Quinn Smith. The desert kept nagging at us to create some images that embodied the intoxicating energy of our surroundings, so we pulled out the camera and documented the start of a new year in Harley's life.
