David and I live in a relatively small city—Richmond, VA—and what we do (building custom sets and creating surreal photo shoots) doesn’t always make sense to the people around us.
Our work takes us to cities like Los Angeles, Nashville, and New York, where we photograph album covers, brand campaigns, and creative portraits. Our sets are all designed to travel so we can pack them up and go wherever the work is.
So when someone local asks what we do, we usually just pull up Instagram and let the photos speak for themselves. Sometimes they get it. Sometimes... not so much.
To be honest, we’re not always surrounded by a super supportive creative environment—and that can feel lonely.
But a few weeks ago, we went to Las Vegas for WPPI and then headed to LA for a shoot, and for the first time in a while, we were surrounded by like-minded creatives again. At WPPI, we met people we know from instagram and finally got to hear their stories and connect face to face. In LA, we worked with other creative business owners who just got it—and the conversations that came out of those moments were so energizing.
We were connecting on a deep level, seeing each other’s challenges, and exchanging ideas that sparked even more inspiration. We realized that, as photographers and creative business owners, we needed to be surrounded by people who understand the journey—who get what it's like to build something creative and meaningful from the ground up. It was refreshing. It was motivating. It was the community we’ve been missing.
That’s when it clicked for us: we can create that same kind of community online.
We can build a space where we inspire each other, exchange ideas, and lift each other up—no matter where we are. The Creative Insiders is our way of doing that. It’s our attempt to bring the kind of energy we felt at WPPI and in LA to anyone, anywhere, who wants to connect and grow alongside other like-minded creatives.
The Creative Insiders is a monthly Zoom series where we talk honestly about creative work, share real stories, practical tips, and honest advice about photography, set design, creativity, and growing your brand.
Each session is one hour long:
It’s not a class—it’s a conversation and a community.
We’re kicking off with the topic that started everything for us: how to find your creative voice—especially when you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of what direction to take.
We used to be wedding photographers.
Burnt out, overbooked, and honestly kind of uninspired. We knew we wanted to make something bolder and more creative—but we didn’t know how to pivot or where to start.
So we set a goal: 100 sets. 100 shoots. 1 year.
It was a personal challenge, just for us. But it ended up being the thing that completely rebranded our work, helped us discover our creative voice, and attracted the clients we work with today.
This isn’t just for photographers—anyone working in a creative field will find value in this session.
First session: Tuesday, April 22 at 1PM EST
